With a limit of just 144 visitors at a time, you're more likely to spot a turtle in the lagoon than another swimmer. Life here is laid-back and serene, set in beautiful natural surroundings with friendly locals. Out of the 27 islands, only West Island and Home Island are inhabited, while the others await exploration. The Cocos Keeling Islands have a total population of around 600, including approximately 450 Cocos Malays. The most unique way to experience the southern atoll. Birdwatching: For birdwatchers, the islands are a paradise, featuring unique vagrant species as well as endemic blue-tailed skinks found on Pulu Belan and Pulu Belan Madar.
Fishing: Local tour guides offer boat trips into the lagoons for fishing adventures, targeting XL bonefish, giant trevally, permit, and more. You can also fish from scenic spots on West Island and Home Island or head out with a skipper or your own boat to catch dinner.
Water Activities: While Cocos offers exciting water activities, accessibility can be challenging for those with mobility limitations. If you have difficulties getting in and out of canoes or fishing vessels, please discuss your needs with us so we can arrange suitable accommodations. It's generally easier to navigate with healthy knees and hips when stepping onto a fishing vessel.

The facility was hastily built with community donations after a cyclone and is the only one of its kind on Christmas Island. The threats to baby birds continues with new chicks being admitted every week. Some have fallen out of nests or have been found floating on the water too weak to fly. Some return to the wild in just a few days while others, such as the Abbott’s booby chicks nest.
The Dales is located on the western coast of the island. It is home to seven watercourses, three of which have springs and flowing water all year round. These streams originate from underground caves and flow into the ocean. Over time, they have worn a series of gorges and natural terraces into the landscape. The Dales’ unique wetland ecosystem is listed as a Wetland of International Importance.

The Hughs Dale track is a raised boardwalk that leads to a permanent waterfall in the rainforest. There are seats and viewing areas along the trail and signs providing more information about the area’s plants and animals.
The waterfall is an important cultural site for local Chinese Buddhists, who regularly conduct ceremonies here.

The Anderson Dale trail starts about halfway along the boardwalk to Hughs Dale Waterfall. After passing through the pristine rainforest, you’ll arrive at a freshwater stream that has carved a small gorge through the limestone cliffs on its way
Strictly for the adventurous, this rainforest walk leads to a small gorge and freshwater stream.
The Anderson Dale trail starts about halfway along the boardwalk to Hughs Dale Waterfall. After passing through the pristine rainforest, you’ll arrive at a freshwater stream that has carved a small gorge through the limestone cliffs on its way to the ocean.
Further down the gorge are caves, a small cove and enormous tangles of tree roots.
The gorge is rough, slippery, and sometimes subject to extensive, unpredictable waves. Be very careful if you choose to venture into this area. Don’t swim; turn your back to the ocean or climb onto the shoreline rock platforms.
